Jeanne Lambert Guay

Beloved wife for 57 years of the late Leo Ralph Guay, Devoted mother of Lise Wolfe and her husband Michael, Frank Guay and his wife Kelly and Suzette Guay. Loving grandmother of Elizabeth, Catherine, Mary and Thomas Wolfe, and William Ludemann. Also survived by her sister Doris Neal of Baltimore, sister-in-law Marie Lambert of Connecticut, brothers-in-law Raymond Guay, Renald Guay and Rene Ledoux of Maine and her loving nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her parents Emile and Ernestine and 12 brothers and sisters.

Jeanne attended Sainte Jeanne d’Arc School in Lowell, MA and graduated in 1942. She worked in the tool crib at the Charlestown Navy Yard until the war ended. She entered the Sisters of Charity of Ottawa (Grey Nuns) as a school teacher for a short time. Jeanne met Leo while she was working at Old Orchard Beach, Maine. They were married in Lowell in January 1953. They lived in Maine then Chicago briefly, before moving to Baltimore.

Jeanne taught elementary school at Saint Clare in Essex, MD and was one of the original lay teachers when the school was founded.

She is best remembered as a high school French Teacher for 31 years at Notre Dame Preparatory School in Towson, MD. She would bake each of her students their favorite cake on their birthday. She enjoyed teaching French cooking during mini-week at NDP.  Jeanne was devoted to the Virgin Mary and also taught her students to pray the rosary in French. She loved to give her students the full French experience by sponsoring school trips to France.

While teaching, she went to school at night and weekends to get a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from Loyola College and a Master of Arts degree from Towson University.

After leaving NDP, Jeanne became a French-speaking reservationist for 10 years with Icelandair. She loved to travel and visited 23 countries in her lifetime.  She enjoyed celebrating Mardi Gras, St. Patrick’s Day and other holidays by bringing food for each holiday for her fellow workers.

Jeanne always made sure her grandchildren went to France for their elementary school graduation and a country of their choice for their high school graduation.

Jeanne was an active member of Saint Clare Parish and Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish. She belonged to Sodality at both parishes.  Jeanne enjoyed supporting her churches.  She donated the baptismal font and Lourdes grotto at Our Lady Queen of Peace.  She also donated a library window at NDP.

The family would like to thank the staff at Stella Maris for all their care and support.
