On Wednesday, July 11, 2012 Phyllis Lea Grumbine (nee West); beloved wife of Raymond Milton Grumbine; devoted mother of Amy Rey and Lacy Grumbine; dear grandmother of Sarah Grumbine, Samuel Rey, Carley Rey, Nellie Rey and the late Jordyn Rey; loving daughter of Lola Sharon West (nee Johnson) and the late Johnnie West; sister of Vickie Maas, James West, Julie Martin, Tammy Cox and the late Jeffery West and Michael West.  Also survived by several nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.

Phyllis West married Raymond Grumbine on August 3, 1974. They brought their first daughter, Amy Michele, into the world on December 25, 1974. Their second daughter, Lacy Marie, was born on December 18, 1979. Phyllis lived her life to be the BEST mother she could be!  Her pride and joy were her grandchildren: Sarah, Sammy, Carley, Nellie and the late Jordyn.

Phyllis worked in Customer Service for many years, helping others. This was fitting as Phyllis had the personality where she generously gave to others and put people before herself!  Phyllis volunteered for many years in her children’s and grandchildren’s schools.

Phyllis loved to cook, bake, garden, Scrapbook and most importantly, spend time with her family. She was a member at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Bowleys Quarters.

For many years, Phyllis battled the terrible disease of Type 1 Diabetes.  No matter how many illnesses or hospital stays, she always fought with such grace, dignity, and perseverance.  Phyllis received the gift of life on February 13, 2004, when her sister-in-law, Ann Fox (nee Grumbine) donated her kidney.

Sadly, Phyllis suffered a massive brain bleed on Tuesday, July 10, 2012. She never regained consciousness and went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, July 11, 2012. Just as she unselfishly gave to others in life, she continued to do in death. On Friday, July 13, 2012, Phyllis’ liver was harvested and successfully transplanted into a 59 year old man. Phyllis was a true HERO in every sense of the word!

A Private cremation was held.  Friends may call at the Saint Matthew's Lutheran Church 3620 Red Rose Farm Road Bowley's Quarters, Maryland 21220 on Friday, July 20, 2012 from 5 to 9 PM.  A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at  11 AM in Saint Matthew's Lutheran Church.  Arrangements by the family owned Bruzdzinski Funeral Home PA.
