Richard “Eels” Malinowski Sr.

Beloved husband of Elizabeth Malinowski. Devoted father of Rick Malinowski and Tom Malinowski and his wife Carolyn. Loving grandfather of Ricky, Katie and Tommy Malinowski. Dear great grandfather of Audrina and Aleina. Also survived by his sister Brigid Kmoch.

Eels was born & raised in Canton, went thru kindergarten-twice, St Brigids elementary school, scholarship to both Mt. St. Joseph & University of Baltimore- with perfect attendance throughout!!!

At Mount St. Joes, he mad All-American in his senior year.  Richard graduated University of Baltimore in'57 as a 2 time All-American soccer player there.  In '55, his best season, he booted home 21 goals there.

In the summer of '59, he met Elizabeth & on Oct. 22, 1960, they wed, moved to Dundalk  & had 2 sons, Ricky & Tom.

As well as family, Dick stayed involved in sports his entire life. He coached rec. sports at Eastfield. He also played slow-pitch at general motors assembly division- GMAD, as some do remember.  He had a lifetime batting average .640 & in '74 he pitched 15 2/3 scoreless innings at The World Industrial Slow-pitch Tournament !!!

Soon after, he got involved in umpiring.. For almost 40 years, he umped slo-pitch, high school girls softball & co-ed kickball at Patterson Park. In won season it is estimated he umped over 400 games & amassed over 7,500 games in his career -- wow!!!! That could explain how  Rich & Betty stayed together for over 56 years!!!.....lol

Eels is in the Md. Soccer Hall of Fame, Md. Slo-pitch Hall of Fame, UB Sports Hall of Fame & Mt. St. Joes Sports hall of Fame.

If there was a family Hall of Fame he would be there to for his dedication to his wife, sons, 3 grandchildren & 2 great granddaughters.. He was an awesome son-in-law and Uncle.. Family was everything to him..

Eels retired from GM. He enjoyed being with the family, watching sports, working in the yard & being out on the bay.  His body was donated to science & a celebration of his life will be held.

A private cremation was held.  A Celebration of Life will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Bruzdzinski Funeral Home PA 1407 Old Eastern Avenue Essex (beltway exit 36) on Thursday August 10th, 2017.  In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Salvation Army.
