Dorothy “Dottie” / “Dot” May Hanes
Dorothy “Dottie” / “Dot” May Hanes passed away on April 27, 2026, leaving behind a family who loved her deeply and countless memories that will be cherished forever. She was the heart of her family — caring, strong, generous, and always happiest when surrounded by the people she loved most.
Dottie shared a loving life with her husband of 45 years, Ernest “Duke” Hanes. Together they built a family grounded in love, laughter, and unwavering support for one another through every season of life.
She was a devoted mother to Angela Pueschel and her husband Eric, and nothing brought her greater joy than being “Nana” to her beloved granddaughters, Hanna and Alice Pueschel, who thought the world of her. Her family was her pride and purpose, and she treasured every moment spent together — from life’s biggest moments and celebrations to the simple everyday conversations and acts of love that meant the most. She knew how to make everything and everyone feel special.
Born on November 24, 1957, to Chris and Edna Nauman. Dottie is lovingly remembered by her siblings: Crissy Lowers (Mel), Mary Snyder (Sam), Kenny Nauman (Ann) and Chris Nauman (Lori). She shared special bonds with her entire family, including her sister-in-law Mary Lou Gosser; brother-in-law Phil Hanes (Vickie); and her many nieces and nephews.
Dottie had a warm and welcoming spirit that made people feel comfortable and cared for. She was the kind of person who remembered the little things, offered support without hesitation, and made lasting impressions through her kindness and compassion. Her love extended far beyond family to the many friends whose lives she touched over the years.
Though her passing leaves an immeasurable void, her family finds comfort knowing her love will continue to live on in the traditions, memories, and stories shared by those who knew her best.
She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in the hearts of everyone who knew her.
“Happy tears” for a life well lived.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, June 7, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Eastern Yacht Club in Essex, Maryland. Light tea party style hors d’oeuvres and refreshments will be provided as family and friends gather to honor and remember Dot’s life.
At 5:30PM, the reception will conclude with a 30-minute ceremony sharing of memories by family members and friends.
