Born: October 30, 1936
Died: January 27, 2026
Eric Ramon Carl was born in Coaldale, Pennsylvania, in 1936 and moved to Baltimore with his parents at the age of four. He graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute in 1955 and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from Johns Hopkins University in 1962.
Eric enjoyed a diverse career path, including work as an engineer in the defense industry. From 1962 to 1989, he was a small business owner of Middle River Marine Electronics Company (MIRELCO) in Essex, where he also designed a page reader. In retirement, he taught for 10 years as a part-time adjunct professor at a community college.
Over the years, Eric pursued various hobbies, including boating, fishing, and flying small single-engine planes and seaplanes. He briefly towed banners and was a leader in Boy Scouts of America Troop 372. Blacksmithing at Jerusalem Mill in Gunpowder Falls State Park and participating in historical reenactment events brought him great joy.
Eric's passion for sharing his faith was evident in his teaching of children and adults for over 70 years at Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was involved in Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Adult Bible Study, and weekly Chapel time at All Stars Learning Center, along with occasional fill-in sermons. He also served the congregation in various leadership roles throughout the years.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Lee Carl; his oldest son, Eric Carl Jr.; and his brother-in-law, Bud Saunders. He is lovingly remembered by his sister, Judith Saunders, and her family; his present wife, Marjorie Hemmerly Carl; sons, Mark Norman Carl (wife Sandra) and Thomas Harry Carl (wife Kimberly); and the widow of Eric Carl Jr., Julie, as well as nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1901 Middleborough Road, Baltimore, MD 21221. Condolences and respects may be paid to the family from 10 AM to 11 AM, with a church service to follow from 11 AM to 12 PM.
