Ernie is a Partner in the firm of Wallace, Montgomery & Associates (WM&A) located in Towson, Maryland. He joined WM&A in 1987 to direct the activities of the Transportation and Hydrology Sections of the firm. Recognized for it's work in the field of bridge engineering, Ernie has been largely responsible for developing the firm's reputation of being a highly capable and responsible highway engineering firm.

Currently, Ernie serves as Partner in Charge for all projects relating to highways, general civil engineering and hydrology. He is actively involved in all phases of engineering, including development design methodology, providing technical direction to the Engineering Staff and direct involvement in design projects including partnering sessions with State and Local Government Agencies, Owners and Contractors. A few of the notable projects Ernie has worked on since joining WM&A include renovations to the Baltimore Washington Parkway, US Route 50/301, improvements to portions of 1-695, several important projects on 1-270 and widening of a 2.5 mile portion of Maryland Route 264 in St. Mary's County.

Ernie was a full time student at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and worked part time for J.E. Greiner, Inc. After earning his Bachelor of Engineering Sciences in 1959, Ernie joined Greiner full time as a Junior Structural Engineer. He spent several years as a Bridge Design Engineer until making the move to Highway Engineering. From that point he went on to become one of the most respected engineers in the State. His work in the field of highway engineering has been for some of the most high profile projects in Maryland. Illustrative examples of this include the Parallel Bay Bridge, the Francis Scott Key Bridge, Maryland Route 2 over the South River, the Jones Falls Expressway, 1-70, 1-68, the John F. Over the past 36 years, Ernie has worked on a large majority of the major highways in Maryland. During the late 1960's, he was part of the team of engineers assigned to the Interstate Division for Baltimore City's Urban Design Concept Team that was charged with the responsibility of developing the Interstate System through Baltimore City. His work in this area contributed to the establishing of a uniform criteria to design Interstate Roadways and Bridges in Baltimore City, which directly associates with the Fort McHenry Tunnel, Interstate Route 83, the 1-95/1-83 Interchange and 1-395.
