Henry "Buzz" Rackl, Jr., age 81, passed away on February 7, 2026, in Baltimore, Maryland. Born on March 7, 1944, in the same city he would call home throughout his life, Buzz left behind a legacy of dedication, camaraderie, and service.
Buzz graduated from Kenwood High School in 1964. A decade later, he answered a calling to public service by graduating from the Maryland State Police Academy in 1974. He went on to serve as a Maryland State Trooper until his retirement in 2002. Over nearly three decades of service, Buzz became known not only for his professionalism but also for the friendships he cultivated along the way. Always quick to make a friend, he amassed an expansive network of buddies, pals, colleagues, and compatriots wherever he went.
Outside of his career in law enforcement, Buzz found joy in life’s simpler pleasures. He loved spending time at home by the water and had a deep appreciation for classic cars and bluegrass music—interests that reflected both his easygoing nature and his appreciation for tradition and craftsmanship.
Buzz was a devoted father and grandfather. He is lovingly remembered by his daughters Margaret Obriwin of Fallston, Maryland, and Michelle Luksa of Houston, Texas; sons-in-law Alexander Obriwin and Kevin Luksa; and grandchildren Morgan McIntyre, William Obriwin, and Caroline Obriwin. His family was a source of great pride and joy throughout his life.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lillian Doris Rackl and Henry Rackl, Sr., whose values helped shape the man he became.
Buzz’s memory lives on through those who knew him—his family, friends, former colleagues—and through the countless lives he touched with his warmth and steadfast presence. May his memory bring comfort to all who mourn his passing.
A Memorial Service will be held on February 28, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Bruzdzinski Funeral Home, 1407 Old Eastern Avenue, Essex, MD 21211. Friends and family will gather afterwards at The Hawks Pleasure Club, 430 Riverside Dr, Essex, MD 21221.
