Bates, Sr. (Laura), Donna Bates, Linda Bates, and Vicki Fleishell (Richard); loving stepfather of Linda Waldhauser (Steve); cherished grandfather of James J. Bates, Jr., Kenneth L. Bates, Casandra Pace (Jason), Stephen Webb, Brian Engleman (Kristen), and Brittany McGill (Dante); dear brother of Ron Bates, and Buddy Bates (Sharon). Also survived by 9 great-grandchildren.

A private cremation was held.
