Lawrence Robert Wiley Jr.

“Crabber Bob”- Lawrence R. Wiley Jr. was a well-known and respected commercial waterman and a proud third-generation waterman on the Chesapeake Bay. The water was not simply his livelihood—it was a way of life that had been passed down through his family and one that he carried on with tremendous pride to his surviving son Matthew Wiley and Nephew Stephen Retallick.

He was a very hard worker who believed in giving his all, no matter how long the days or how difficult the work. His pride, strength, determination, and dedication earned him the respect of those who knew him and worked alongside him. He was a man who understood the value of hard work and took great pride in his work and providing for his family in what he loved to do most.

Beyond his work, he will be remembered most for the man he was—the husband, family member, friend, and neighbor whose presence touched so many lives. Everyone knew Bob, his passing leaves an emptiness that can never truly be filled, but his memory will live on through the family he loved, the people whose lives he touched, and the waterman’s legacy he carried for three generations.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered. A true Waterman forever in his soul, whose spirit will continue to live on in the tides he worked, the waters he knew so well, and in the hearts of all who were blessed to know and love him.

Bob was the Son of the late Lawrence R. Wiley Sr. (Whitey) and Janice Wiley
2 surviving sisters Brenda Retallick and brother in law Bruce Retallick, Beverly Wiley and the late Lynn Wiley.
In addition to all his many beloved extended family members, and his many, many dear friends.

Bob you will truly be missed by many, you are a true legend In the commercial waterman’s industry, never to be forgotten. Your legacy will live on.
