Mathilda Alvina Miller, a beloved soul whose generous spirit and fierce love touched the hearts of all who knew her, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2026, at 104 years old. Born on June 29, 1921, in Maryland, Mathilda’s life was a testament to dedication, warmth, and devotion — qualities that defined every chapter she lived.
For 35 years, Mathilda devoted her professional life to Maryland National Bank, carrying out her work with unwavering commitment and care. Her colleagues and clients alike found in her a steady presence, a woman who tackled her responsibilities with grace and diligence. Yet, beyond her career achievements, it was Mathilda’s personal qualities that truly set her apart. She was known for her immense generosity and a love that burned fiercely for her family, a love that became the cornerstone of her enduring legacy.
Mathilda was an active member of Hope Lutheran Church, a community that she cherished deeply. She found joy and strength in her faith, which nourished her through every season of life. Her zest for life was further expressed in her hobbies and interests—she delighted in traveling, found solace in church gatherings, and embraced the lively rhythm of dancing. These passions animated her spirit and brought her boundless delight, enriching her journey on this earth.
Her family remembers her with profound affection. She is survived by her sister, Catherine Wohlleben, and her niece, Beverly Brazerol, along with Beverly’s husband, Ken. The love Mathilda bestowed cascaded down through generations to her great nephews, Marc Cougle and his wife Melissa, and Matthew Cougle and his wife Katie, as well as to her great-great nieces and nephews — Simone, Larkin, Lincoln, and Lucy. Each held a special place in her heart, and together they continue to cherish the radiant light she cast on their lives.
Mathilda’s story is also touched by those she loved before her passing—her mother, Louise Koch Bierman, and her father, John Bierman, now rest in peace, having carried her into this world. Though they have preceded her, the family’s shared memories of these loved ones weave a tapestry of enduring connection.
Friends and family are invited to honor and celebrate Mathilda’s remarkable life at the Bruzdzinski Funeral Home, P.A., located at 1407 Old Eastern Ave, Essex, MD 21221, United States. Two visitations will be held on May 18, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and again from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The funeral service will follow on May 19, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. These moments will provide a tender space to reflect upon her life, recount cherished memories, and find comfort in one another’s presence.
Mathilda Alvina Miller’s life was one marked by steadfast love, generous hands, and a joyful heart. Though her physical presence is no longer with us, the light she kindled continues to shine brightly in the lives of all she touched. She leaves behind a legacy not just of years, but of laughter, kindness, and an unyielding spirit—a true testament to a life beautifully lived.
