Matthew Jon Lohr, age 57, of Baltimore, Maryland, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes at his home.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Chantele Lohr of Forest Hills, New York; his parents, Joan and Edward Lohr of Grand Rapids, Michigan; his brother, Garret Lohr and wife Michelle of Ada, Michigan; and his sister, Carrie Lohr Hendricks and husband Scott Hendricks of Arlington, Texas. He was preceded in death by his sister, Sara Lohr Ezinga.
Matthew is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Alex and Olivia Ezinga, Dylan, Kaitlin, and Makayla Hendricks, and Emma Lohr.
Matthew will always be remembered as a loving father, caring son, and goofy, fun-loving brother who proudly served in the United States Army. He was known for his kind heart, generosity, and willingness to help anyone in need, whether volunteering at soup kitchens during the holidays to help feed the homeless or stopping to assist someone stranded on the side of the road. Matthew was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.
He had many passions and interests throughout his life. Matthew loved animals, cooking, writing poetry, photography, and computers, and worked for many years as an IT specialist. He also photographed many events throughout the Baltimore area. In his younger years, he was an avid chess and soccer player known for his intelligence and curiosity. Most of all, he was a lifelong Baltimore Ravens fan. Matthew also loved travel and adventure. One of his greatest joys was scuba diving during his many Caribbean cruises and experiencing different parts of the world, including trips to Kenya and Egypt. He loved being near the beach and water.
Above all else, Matthew deeply loved his family and will be remembered for his warmth, humor, adventurous spirit, intelligence, and compassionate heart. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Friends may call at the family-owned Bruzdzinski Funeral Home, P.A., 1407 Old Eastern Avenue, Essex, Maryland 21221, on Friday, May 15, 20206 from 11 AM to 1 PM, where a service will be held at 1 PM. Interment Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery.
