It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Patricia C. Travers, 94, who passed peacefully on June 14, 2026, at the Senator Bob Hooper House in Forest Hill, MD. Born in Essex, MD, on September 4, 1931, to Francis and Thelma (Brumwell) Brown, Pat was the beloved wife of the late William A. Travers for seventy years. Raised in Connecticut by her father’s Aunt Bessie and Uncle Ben along with her beloved cousins Josephine and Little Bet. She returned to Essex as a teenager and graduated from Catholic High in 1949. She married William on June 24, 1951, and spent the following decades devoted to her family, her career, and her many friends.
Pat retired from the United States Post Office in 1996, following a career that began with memorable roles at Read’s Drug Store and St. James Bank in Dundalk, Maryland. It was through these early positions that she met lifelong friends like Mary Hartman and Wanda Spedden, and even met her future husband, Bill, while working as a car hop at the Thunderbird. Professionally, she dedicated many years to bookkeeping for family businesses, including Lan Lea Apartments and Stebbins Garden Gate. A true social butterfly, with amazing interpersonal skills. To know her was to love her. She was an active member of the “Lazy Daisy’s” card group and the “Guys and Dolls” social club. She had a passion for playing cards, reading murder mysteries, swimming, diving, steamed crabs, Coor’s light, horse racing, and boating, but her greatest joy was cheering on her grandchildren at their sporting events. Her recent years were spent at the Golden Ring Co-Op Apartments enjoying cards and bingo with a wonderful group of friends. She is survived by her son, William A. Travers, Jr. (Linda); her daughter-in-law, Pam Travers; her daughters, Patricia C. Shifflett and Suzanne Battista (Tony); six grandchildren, Jr Shifflett, Sean Travers, Garrett Travers, Bruce Travers, Laurel Walker, and Patrick Travers; and two great-grandchildren, Johanna and Jet Walker. She was predeceased by her husband, William; her son, Ronald P. Travers; and her siblings, Frank and Jessie Brown.
Friends may gather at the family-owned Bruzdzinski Funeral Home, 1407 Old Eastern Avenue, Essex, Maryland 21221, on Thursday, June 18, 2026 from 10am to 12pm, where a service will be held at 12pm. Interment Gardens of Faith Memorial Gardens.
