Richard Suehle

Richard M. Suehle passed on to God on November 21, 2025. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Dorothy Suehle; his nieces and nephews, Kathleen Suehle Wandishin (James), John Suehle (Deborah), Patricia Suehle White (John Patrick), Joseph Suehle (Barbara) and Andrew Suehle (Sherri); his great nieces and nephews, Christine Smith (Mike), Joseph Wandishin (Katie), Stephen Wandishin, Katie Dorsey (Drew), John White, Jr., Carly White, Benjamin Suehle, Jack Suehle, Michael Suehle and Samantha Suehle; his great great nieces and nephews, Violet Wandishin, Will Wandishin, Lilly Wandishin, Anna Smith, Charlie Wandishin, Baby Girl Dorsey and his many friends, especially Mary Heisner, Tom Grzymski, Joe Burk and the those from the Boy Scouts of America community.

Richard was born in Baltimore on December 16, 1942, to his parents, Catharine Rogers Suehle and Edward Suehle. He is predeceased by his parents, his brothers Edward Suehle and Wilbur Suehle, and his great nephew John Wandishin.

After high school, Richard faithfully served his country in the Army National Guard where he was honorably discharged. He then began a career as a claim specialist with the Social Security Administration and retired after 38 years of service. He was honored with several awards for his Impeccable work.

Richard lived a life of service to others. He gave 35 years to the Boy Scouts of America, serving as Scout Master and in other capacities. He was awarded several special honors, including the Silver Beaver Award, the Order of the Arrow and the St. George Emblem. He also volunteered for Meals on Wheels, delivering meals to those who needed them.

Richard’s faith in God was his strength and anchor all his life. He was a member of our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Essex for many years, where he faithfully attended Mass each week, served as an altar boy in his youth, and led the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) School. He attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel Elementary School and St. Stephen’s High School. When he moved to Nottingham, he began attending St. Joseph Church in Fullerton until his death.

Richard was well known for his love of country and anything patriotic or military, his Baltimore teams, the Orioles and the Ravens, John Wayne, Norman Rockwell art, and collected memorabilia of all of it!

Richard never married or had children, but he loved Dorothy like a sister and doted on his nieces and nephews as if they were his own. He always gave the most special gifts at Christmas, the one that was most wanted! He took them to pick out a gift at the end of every school year as a reward for working hard. He never missed a school play, special award ceremony, graduation, wedding, baptism, or any other important occasion in the life of his family. He taught all five nieces and nephews to drive and took them to take their driving test. When his older brother Edward died much too early, Richard promised to look after Dorothy and assumed the role of surrogate father for the five children, always being available to assist them in any need. No holiday or family celebration was complete without Richard being present. He was never considered to be “extended family” but an essential member of our immediate family. He was generous with his time as well as his assets, fiercely loved his family, and was unwavering in his beliefs and all he held dear.
