Russell Edward Manuel, Jr, 89, of Essex, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 5, at Stella Maris Hospice, surrounded by his family.Russ was born on August 19, 1936, in Shady Valley, TN. He moved to Maryland when he was 15, but people always knew his southern roots because his accent never left.
Russ was a proud veteran of the United States Army. He spent many weekends and evenings singing karaoke at the American Legion and VFW. He also enjoyed playing cards and shuffleboard, shooting pool, visits to McDonald's with his friends, and watching The Price is Right.
Russell had a gentle way about him. He was kind, funny, easygoing, and charming. He never met a stranger and his fist bumps and thumbs-up were for everyone.
Russell was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Inez Wilma Brock. He leaves behind his daughters, Jill Murphy and her husband Sean, and Beth Smith and her husband Jeff. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Brianna and Craig Macdonell; Keeley Murphy and her fiancée, Connor Drinon; Quinn and Andrea Murphy; Nate and Cate Smith; Ben Smith; Owen Murphy, and Brenna Murphy and six great-grandchildren as well as many other family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at the American Legion in Essex, 20 S. Marlyn Avenue, on Sunday, February 15, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., where family and friends are invited to gather, remember, and celebrate a full life well lived.
