Steven Joseph Schmitt

5/12/1965 – 8/14/2026

Steven Joseph Schmitt, 61, of Baltimore, passed away unexpectedly on August 14, 2026. Steven was born and raised in Essex, MD.

Beloved son of Genevieve Schmitt and the late Lawrence Schmitt. He is also survived by his biological father, Joseph Pirog, and Joseph’s wife, Deborah.

Loving brother of Kathleen Estep and her husband, David; Christine Buckalew and her husband, Robert; and Angel Detty and her husband, Christopher.

Steven is survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and his lady friend with the beautiful smile, Katie Nickoles.

Steven earned his associate’s degree from Anne Arundel Community College and his Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Services from the University of Baltimore. A mentor and friend to many, he aspired to help people in need. As an Elder in the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Steven facilitated programs to mentor and inspire others who were facing challenges.

He loved the Word of God, his family and friends, adventure, new experiences, and ice cream. Steven had a strong faith and a gift for connecting Scripture to everyday life, often sharing a verse that seemed perfectly suited to the moment. His faith made him joyful, thankful, and positive, and he used that faith to encourage others.

Steven is now enjoying himself in the presence of our King. The lights of Heaven are shining a little brighter right now.
