Thomas Lee Greenbaum was born on June 29, 1961, in Baltimore City, Maryland. On July 5, 2026, Thomas’s journey came to a close in Middle River, Maryland, just after his sixty-fifth birthday—a fitting symmetry for a life defined by quiet strength and subtle resonance.
Thomas was fascinated by architecture and landscapes by a young age. He could draft houses by grade school. His grandmother, Stella, recognized his talent and encouraged it. This lead to a strong bond between them and Thomas was devastated by her death by cancer, in April of 1981, as he was attending the University of Maryland at College Park. After post-graduate studies, Thomas worked for several local real estate firms.
Ever since the Bicentennial Thomas admired The Selle's Home at 1205 Doves Cove. It was a Mid-Century Modern rancher infused with Japanese overtones, which reminded Thomas of his favorite architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Mrs. Selle even said to Thomas maybe one day he would own it. Thomas did indeed own this house from August 1996 to May 2015. The Baltimore Sun even had an article on it titled "House of Destiny". Preserving this unique house became a large part of Thomas' focus and identity. Thomas would come to own a home on Troys Drive in Los Angeles, and a condominium in Palm Springs, but Doves Cove would always be where his heart was.
Thomas loved small dogs (and cows), His community of Hampton, and helping his neighbors, especially the elderly. He often walked his friends dog, Conti, around Hampton. His favorite song was Petula Clark's hit "Downtown" in part because his grandmother gifted a copy to him.
Thomas will be greatly missed by the former Hampton neighbors, his family, and friends, especially Kathleen Sadtler, Edward Kendal, Mary Maggio, and long time caregiver William Teller.
Thomas is survived by his brother Robert Greenbaum and his wife Brooke along with his niece Lauren and his nephew Logan. He is preceeded in death by his parents Jesse and Frances and by his adored grandmother Stella.
A funeral service will be held for Thomas Lee Greenbaum at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 3620 Red Rose Farm Road, Middle River, Maryland 21220, on July 15, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Druid Ridge Cemetery, 7900 Park Heights Avenue, Pikesville, Maryland 21208. All who knew him are welcome to gather from 10 am-11 am, in the church, to honor his memory, and to share in the collective remembrance of a life well lived.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The ASPCA.
