Kledus George Obituary

Kledus Jane George

October 10, 1941 - August 18, 2021

Kledus Jane (Henderson) George of Essex, Maryland, formerly of White Stone, Virginia, and Plymouth, Massachusetts, died peacefully in her home on August 18, 2021. Kleet, as she was known to her family and friends, was born on October 10, 1941, in Fort Knox, Kentucky, to Lt. Col. Rupert C. Henderson and Marion F. (O’Brien) Henderson. A proud Army veteran, Kledus served as an officer in the United States Army Nurse Corps in the US, Korea, and Germany from 1964 to 1968 and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. She achieved the rank of Captain and was a head nurse on the medical-surgical unit at the Landstuhl Army Medical Center in Germany, where she met her husband, Charles (Charlie) George.

After her years of military service, she attended the University of Virginia, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing in 1972. After marrying in 1972, Kleet and Charlie settled in Plymouth and both worked at Jordan Hospital, where Kleet spent the rest of her career. She worked as a Registered Nurse in various departments, including Critical Care, Recovery, Day Surgery, and Staff Education, until retiring in 2003 upon their move to White Stone. While living in White Stone, she volunteered at the local YMCA and the Northern Neck-Middlesex Free Health Clinic. After moving to Essex, Kleet, an avid reader, assisted in organizing her building’s library. She cherished her family and friends, enjoyed meditation, books, and puzzles, and loved helping others above all.

Kleet is survived by her two daughters and their families: Alys George and Glenn Kurtz of New York, New York, and Krysten George and Zachary Reed-Harris of Forest Hill, Maryland. She was the proud grandmother of Owen Reed-Harris and Zora Kurtz. Her older sister Helen Thompson predeceased her, and her twin sister Charlotte Digiacomo survives her. Kledus was laid to rest with her beloved husband in a private burial at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Providence, Rhode Island, and a memorial celebration of her beautiful life was held at Colt State Park in Bristol, Rhode Island, on August 27, 2021
