I am very sorry about your loss. Life is precious and when we lose someone who was so loved and deeply respected it stings just that much more. You are not left alone to cope with your sorrow. God promises to wipe away your tears and swallow up death forever. Soon all this mourning and sadness will be no more. Until that blissful time comes may God comfort and strengthen you.

I have the fondest memories of George from my early life. When I was a young boy either George or his father, my Uncle John would pick me up a day or so before the 4th of July and I would stay with them. George and I would go crabbing and add to the collection that uncle John would purchase to feed the entire family on the 4th.

I recall one 4th when George was water skiing and he jumped a wave, his knee came up and hit him in the eye. When he got back in the boat he had a big smile on his face and a black eye to boot. At dark it was George’s job to set off the fireworks, it was always a great show. I remember the 4th wasn’t the same when George went off to the Marines, I couldn’t wait for him to return. He came by our home in Hawthorne to visit us when he got out of boot camp, ramrod straight in his dress blues. I sure was proud of him! I still have the picture mom took of us.

We moved away and I lost touch with George. Mom would give me periodic update on him and his family and I always thought of George, Uncle John and Aunt Pauline on the 4th when we would gather for crabs and talk about the old times at their shore home.

I am sorry for you loss and he will always be in my thoughts.

I was stunned to learn today of George's passing. He was my boss on the guard force and I was his secretary. My husband Steve was a guard under his command as well. He was quite the story teller and always talked about his children and grandchildren and loved them so much. He was a smart, kind and awesome man and will be deeply missed. My deepest and sincere condolences to his family. I know all too well how it feels to lose a parent, the rock of my life, as I recently lost my mom so I honestly feel your pain. Just treasure the memories, the good times and keep him close in your heart.

We were so sorry to hear about your Dad. He was a really great person and will be so missed. We have always been grateful to him for saving Valerie the day she fell into my mom's pool and probably would have drowned if he hadn't happened to stop by for a visit at that exact moment. Your families are and will be in our thoughts and prayers. Earl, Barb, Valerie Bryant and Jessica Helsley
